Hockey Game YouTubeEnjoy watching Crusaders Hockey but can’t make it to the next game? Watch the game at home (or on the go) along with commentary from local announcers! Since the 2014-2015 season, Groton-Dunstable EdTech staff members Joe Bisbee and Gary Babin have volunteered with The Groton Channel to record and provide play-by-play commentary for each hockey game. The idea was born when Joe, and Gary were meeting with Bob Coleman, The Groton Channel Director, on an unrelated project. “We floated the idea by Bob and he was immediately receptive to the idea.” Joe Bisbee mentioned in an interview. “The addition of commentary adds to the broadcast and keeps viewers more involved.”

Most of the camerawork and editing is done by Joe Resca, whose son (Anthony, class of ’14) played on the team. Joe still has two children in the district and has stayed involved with the hockey program. If Joe cannot make a game, Brendan Crewe (The Groton Channel) steps in for the filming/editing. The games in their entirety can be seen either on The Groton Channel (check the website for listings) or on the district YouTube channel a few days after the game.

The team is off to a great 9-1-1 start this year under first year coach Brendan McCann. They’ve played a strong 2-way game and have beat some fierce competition to earn their way up to the #2 spot in the division behind only Shrewsbury (GD’s only loss).

Coach McCann echoed that sentiment when asked about the season thus far, “We’ve had a great first half of the season, currently sitting in first place of the Roy Conference and second place overall in Central Mass. The boys have played solid hockey in all three zones, especially in the defensive zone where they have helped our two goalies to a Central Mass best 13 Goals Against in 11 Games. Hoping we can continue this success through our hard work during the second half of the season!”
