School Committee Announces Dr. Chesson as Superintendent

The Groton-Dunstable School Committee is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Laura Chesson as Superintendent of Schools. Dr. Chesson will assume her duties as of July 1, 2017.

Dr. Chesson’s appointment comes after a nationwide search process that attracted over twenty five applicants for the position. A Superintendent Search Screening Committee comprised of parents, town officials, community members, and school personnel, from both the Groton and Dunstable communities, reviewed all the applications and invited several candidates for preliminary interviews. Subsequent to the preliminary interviews, the screening committee recommended several candidates for further consideration by the Groton-Dunstable School Committee.

On April 6, 2017, the School Committee voted to enter into contract negotiations with Dr. Chesson after her day-long visit to the school district, and a public interview by the School Committee, also held on April 6, 2017.

Dr. Chesson is currently the Assistant Superintendent in Arlington, Massachusetts, a position she has held since 2012. Prior to serving as an assistant superintendent, Dr. Chesson was Principal of Maynard High School and Headmaster of House White at Leominster High School. She began her educational career as District Educational Technology Coordinator and Mathematics/Science Teacher for a district in New Mexico.

She then moved to New England, where she taught Mathematics in Hudson, Massachusetts. She holds a Doctorate in School Leadership from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell.

The Groton-Dunstable School Committee looks forward to working with Dr. Chesson in the future. The School Committee also extends its appreciation to all those in the communities of Groton and Dunstable who offered their support and assistance during the search process.
